Mitski Gives Stirring Performance of “If I Leave” on Kimmel: Watch

Mitski stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform “If I Leave,” a standout track from her recent album Nothing’s About to Happen to Me.

Sporting a large fur coat, jewels, and thick gloves in an Old Hollywood-style fit, Mitski provided a stirring rendition of “If I Leave” for Kimmel. She hardly moved a muscle while singing, rarely breaking her fixed gaze and crooning through the song’s verses with conviction. Then, at the song’s bridge, where Mitski cries “I ride through the tunnel and it’s dark the whole way,” the black screens behind her and her band strobed with sharp white lines scribbled throughout; it looked pretty intense. Still, as usual with Mitski and her live performances, she brought both poise and poignancy to “If I Leave.” Watch it below.

Nothing’s About to Happen to Me, Mitski’s eighth album, arrived on February 27th. She previously appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert the week of release to perform another of the project’s standout tracks, “I’ll Change for You.” We also named the album one of the best of February 2026 in our Staff Picks roundup.

Mitski just wrapped up the North American leg of her tour in support of Nothing’s About to Happen to Me, but she’ll head to Europe, Australia, and Asia next. Revisit our review of Mitski’s career-spanning show this spring in New York City, and get tickets to see her international shows here.
