Developed by Fumi Games, MOUSE: P.I. For Hire stars private investigator Jack Pepper. The “guns blazing, jazz-fueled adventure combines the charm of hand-drawn rubber hose animation inspired by the classic cartoons of the 1930’s with the adrenaline and action of an explosive first person shooter,” reads an official description of the game.
MOUSE: P.I. For Hire was released last week (April 16) and has an “overwhelming positive” user-review score on Steam. “This game is a perfect example of what a great story should be. Its narrative blends seamlessly with the shooter gameplay—half the time it feels like Doom, and the other half like a detective noir experience. That contrast is exactly what makes it so compelling,” wrote one fan. “Max Payne meets Cuphead. Great game, incredible graphics, incredible story, incredible overall,” added another.
Following the game’s release, the MOUSE: P.I. For Hire soundtrack, composed by Patryk Scelina and featuring French electro-swing band Caravan Palace is now available to stream.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to share this score with you,” Scelina wrote on Bandcamp. “Working on MOUSE: P.I. For Hire has been quite a wild ride. It is so rare to have the chance to work on a project that feels completely different from anything else. The game’s setting gave me the opportunity to explore a wide stylistic range in the music. At its core, the score is rooted in big band swing, but there is much more beneath the surface. First and foremost, this is a crime and investigation story, so I approached the music like an old film-noir detective tale.”
The MOUSE: P.I For Hire soundtrack is also getting a vinyl release via Mondo. The LP features all 19 of Patryk Scelina’s original tracks alongside Caravan Palace’s ‘Good Mouse’. The vinyl will ship in June and is available to pre-order now.
In other news, the remake of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag is coming in July, according to a leaked announcement presentation.
