Orsay on Bringing His Classical Background to Dance Music

Orsay talks to us about his musical background, influences, and what’s coming next. Paris and London-based DJ and producer Orsay is building a sound that he describes as an intersection of melodic house and indie with a more club-focused side. A classically trained musician, he began playing piano at age six and attended a music conservatory before shifting his focus toward dance music. After moving to London in 2019, Orsay found himself heavily exposed to dance music through the city’s nightlife. Going to venues like fabric, KOKO, and Phonox helped expand his understanding of dance music. Seeing Afterlife at Printworks was a particular moment that inspired him to dig deeper into production and start defining his own sound. Now splitting his time between London and Paris, Orsay is focused on continuing to grow as both a producer and DJ. His music has been released on labels like Ninja Tune, Siamese, Universal Music, and Kitsuné. He has also received support from artists such as Adriatique, Solomun, Keinemusik, WhoMadeWho, Carlita, and RÜFÜS DU SOL.
