OutKast File Lawsuit Against Ovrkast, Claiming “Malicious Intent” With His Chosen Name

OutKast have sued Oakland rapper and producer Ovrkast, claiming his alias is an intentional knockoff meant to trick people into thinking he’s associated with the Atlanta hip-hop duo. High Schoolers LLC, the holding company of André 3000 and Big Boi, filed the lawsuit against Silas Wilson, whose stage name is Ovrkast, on September 16 in a Georgia federal court accusing him of trademark infringement, unfair competition and breach of contract for allegedly going back on a deal to stop using his hip-hop alias. “The public has been led to falsely believe that an association exists between Plaintiff and Defendant,” the complaint said. “Defendant’s conduct was and is knowing, deliberate, willful, and in bad faith and done with the intent to trade on the goodwill and reputation of Plaintiff.” In the 31 page complaint, OutKast laid out the steps they’ve gone through to build up and protect their name. As evidence of the confusion induced in the public by Ovrkast, the Atlanta rappers pointed to a 2025 interview in Rolling Stone in which he said people “‘read Ovrkast [as] Outkast.’” The hip-hop duo also recounted negotiations they went through with Wilson about his name in 2025 and 2026.
