In the past few years, a huge segment of the hardcore underground has gone heavy, embracing the most brutal, ugly, guttural strains of death metal, deathcore, and slam. That plot-twist has led to the rise of bands like Torture, Final Resting Place, Snuffed On Sight, and Fatal Realm. But the biggest of the new wave of slam bands is Oklahoma City's PeelingFlesh. As you can tell by both the band name and the unreadable logo above, PeelingFlesh's whole style is about as unfriendly as it gets. They've got an utterly demented sound — violent speed-chug breakdowns with pig-squeal vocals and occasional Southern rap samples — that truly makes no sense to me. It makes the kids go crazy, though.PeelingFlesh have been putting out music since 2021, when they debuted with the Slamaholics mixtape, and their full-length debut The G Code came out in 2024. This fall, they'll follow it with their new self-titled album. It's got guest appearances from members of Sanguisugabogg, Bayway, Stabbing, and Extermination Dismemberment.
