Phil Collins Reveals He Nearly Died From Alcohol Abuse: “People Were Coming To Say Goodbye”

Phil Collins has not been in good health in recent years, but until now it wasn't publicly known just how bad things got. In a new interview, Collins, 75, revealed he was on his death bed two years ago due to alcohol abuse.Speaking with the Times of London, Collins said in April 2024, his longtime manager summoned his five children to his bedside in a Swiss hotel to say goodbye. "Because there were some decisions to be made about ‘Do we keep Phil on life support?’ kind of thing," Collins recalled. "My kidneys were packing up, my organs were just seizing up. People were coming to say goodbye. But I don’t remember them coming, I didn’t have no idea this was going on. They were all worried that they wouldn’t see me again. It could all have gone so terribly wrong."Collins had struggled with alcohol addiction on and off over the years, as described in his 2016 memoir Not Dead Yet. He was sober when the book came out, partially thanks to a drug called Antabuse, but he went off the drug for some reason.
