Pierce Brosnan talks up ‘Mamma Mia 3’ chances after meeting with producer

Pierce Brosnan has opened up about the chances of a third Mamma Mia film after meeting with its producer.

Speculation over Mamma Mia 3 has been rife over the past few years, with producer Judy Craymer saying back in 2020 that “there’s meant to be a trilogy”.

Brosnan – who played Sam Carmichael in 2008 first film and its 2018 sequel Here We Go Again – has now revealed that he recently spoke to Craymer, suggesting that the film is “doable”.

“Judy Craymer is a dear friend, and we met during the summer, and I believe that my fellow thespians would all jump at the chance to go and do Mamma Mia 3,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

“I think it’s doable. Of course, it’s always the story. What is the story? I would definitely welcome the opportunity to go back into the world of Mamma Mia!, for sure.”

It comes after co-star Christine Baranski (Tanya Chesham-Leigh) said in August that she had also met with Craymer.

“She is planning Mamma Mia 3,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “She gave me the narrative plotline of how it’s going to happen. That’s all I can say! But, it’s not like, ‘Oh, I wish it could happen!’

“Judy Craymer makes things happen. She made number two happen, and it was a phenomenal hit. I wouldn’t put it past Judy Craymer to get everybody back together. We’ll all be on some fabulous Greek or Croatian island having a blast, I hope.”

Star Amanda Seyfried (Sophie Sheridan) suggested last year that the cast were up for a return, though added to Vogue Magazine: “Nobody is saying no, but nobody is saying yes either. The powers that be probably can’t afford us to be honest.

“I hate to say it, because would I do Mamma Mia 3 for free — of course I would — but that’s not the business we’re in. What’s fair is fair, and I feel like a third film is gonna come down to something stupid like whether or not Universal wants to pay the money.”
