Elden Ring is a huge and intimidating game. Its massive open world can easily take more than 100 hours to clear, and there are tonnes of dungeons, pathways, and areas to get lost in, which might make your first few hours a struggle. If you are finally jumping into the game, we have some key locations and areas to visit below.

This guide will cover some initial main locations, side dungeons, and items to find that will give you that boost.

Places to visit and things to do first in ‘Elden Ring’

Some key things to do and areas to visit first in Elden Ring are:

  • Church of Elleh
  • Third Church of Marika
  • Fort Haight
  • Castle Morne

Most of these locations can be found in Limgrave and the nearby Mistwood. Therefore, you won’t have to explore too far beyond the initial area you start the game in.

Church of Elleh

The Church of Elleh can be found directly north of where you exit from The First Step Site of Grace in the game (after you wake up in Limgrave proper). Walk or run completely past the Tree Sentinel in front of it, and enter the ruins of the church to find Merchant Kale.

Here you can buy a crafting kit, which is vital to your journey as it allows you to craft items.

Off to the east, you can follow the main path down from the Gatefront Ruins in front of Stormveil Castle. Continue following the main path northeast until you cross under the remnants of a building. Follow the path onwards to the church ahead, and you will find the Third Church of Marika, which has the first items needed for your flasks and Flask of Wondrous Physick.

Fort Haight

On top of the remnants of the building you passed to get to the Third Church of Marika, you will find Keeneth Haight. He will tell you to visit Fort Haight to help him conquer Limgrave. This can be found through the Mistwood south of where he is located. After clearing out the Fort, return to him to get a useful dagger.

Castle Morne

Castle Morne can be found at the very south of the map, past the Weeping Peninsula. If you don’t want to progress into some of the harder areas north, this is the perfect place to go, as it has a lot of good gear and upgrades.
