‘Pokémon’ fan-favourite tracks get emo reworking for new covers album

For their next project, Tune In With Chewie has taken a number of fan-favourite tracks from across the various Pokémon soundtracks and reworked them as emo instrumental songs, inspired by Jimmy Eat World, Mineral and American Football. “Built around heartfelt guitar performances recorded across a range of alternate tunings, ‘Poké Emo’ gives familiar themes a sound that is equal parts nostalgic and cathartic,” explains a press release. For the record, Chewie reharmonised many of the arrangements and the album is “dotted with deep cuts for the genre faithful: the ‘Pokémon Theme’ intro takes its chord progression from Sunny Day Real Estate’s ‘8’ and the trumpet threaded through ‘Jubilife Village’ is a direct nod to American Football.” The album artwork even includes a deliberate Mineral reference. “Pokémon has been a series I’ve wante...
