Prince musical ‘Purple Rain’ heading to Broadway in 2027

The stage adaptation of Prince‘s Purple Rain is coming to Broadway next spring, helmed by a new creative team. The musical – based on the 1984 film – features music by Prince, including classics ‘When Doves Cry’, ‘I Would Die 4 U’, ‘Take Me with You’ and ‘Purple Rain’, and will play Broadway’s Majestic Theatre from March 12, 2027. Opening night is scheduled for April 12, and you can sign up for early access to tickets here. The musical had its world premiere at the State Theater in Minneapolis last year, featuring a book by Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and direction by Lileana Cruz. With it set to come to Broadway, the creative team has been revamped, with Saheem Ali (Buena Vista Social Club) directing the musical with a book by Peter Duchan (Dogfight).
