Prodigal sign to Deep Love Recordings and share new single "The Door"

Signing to Deep Love Recordings, the band joins a roster with a growing reputation for left-field heavy music, including acts such as Rev3rent, Empty Shell Casing, and Fifi. The label was founded only last year, in LA, by Cody Verdecias, who has worked with Turnstile and 100 gecs. As for Prodigal, they hail from Stroud, the small market town in Gloucestershire, which isn't exactly on the map for heavy music, or music at all. But the absence of a major city or scene has sharpened the band’s self-contained identity. Prodigal have built their sound in relative isolation, a disconnect that works in their favour as "The Door" arrives feeling fully formed and untethered to any particular regional trend. Elasticated, drop-tuned guitar lines are kept in check by a tight percussive anchor. The band’s sound invites loose comparisons to Deftones’ earlier work and the emotional heft of bands like 36 Crazyfists, but the press materials resist leaning on nostalgia, insisting Prodigal’s music is its own beast. The single, the band note, was produced to find “beauty within the extreme and vice versa.” Check it out below.
