A reissue of Miles Davis & John Coltrane — The Complete Columbia Recordings 1955-1961 has been announced in celebration of the musicians’ centennial year. The collection is scheduled to be released November 6th via Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings. Available for pre-order as 9xLP and 6xCD sets, the collection, originally put out in 2000, contains 58 tracks from Davis albums such as ‘Round About Midnight, Milestones, Jazz at the Plaza, Someday My Prince Will Come, and Kind of Blue. Also included are the Davis and Coltrane collaborations that appeared on Miles and Monk at Newport, Birth of The Blue, Basic Miles, and Circle in the Round. Additionally, the set has 18 tracks that hadn’t been released before the original 2000 edition, which aren’t available anywhere else. The vinyl set contains individually-designed jackets in a slipcase with a 60-page adaptation of the original book with photographs and essays by original producer George Avakian and Kind of Blue drummer Jimmy Cobb, liner notes by critic Bob Blumenthal, and the original liner notes to Kind of Blue by pianist Bill Evans.
