Richard Simmons’ Cause of Death Revealed by His Brother

Richard Simmons’ official cause of death has been determined as an accident due to complications from recent falls and heart disease.

The fitness guru’s brother, Lenny Simmons, shared the results of a report from the LA Coroner’s office with People through family spokesperson Tom Estey. “The Coroner informed Lenny that Richard’s death was accidental due to complications from recent falls and heart disease as a contributing factor,” the statement reads. “The toxicology report was negative other than medication Richard had been prescribed.”

Simmons was found dead at his Hollywood Hills home on July 13th — just one day after celebrating his birthday. Early reports said he had fallen the previous day after feeling dizzy.

Following his death, the Los Angeles Police Department ruled there “is no foul play,” but the Medical Examiner’s Office deferred the cause of death determination for further investigation.
