Rihanna has hit back at critics of her recent election fraud joke.

On the eve of the election yesterday (November 5), the ‘SOS‘ singer took to Instagram to post a video of her staring out the window in a car, with “POV: me trying to sneak into the polls with my son’s passport” appearing on screen.

In the video’s caption, she wrote: “When protecting pussies and firing pussies can happen all in one vote #votecauseicant”, adding #TanSuitSeason” as an apparent endorsement of presidential candidate and current Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency.

Despite the light-hearted nature of the post, and the fact she is unable to vote herself (she is not eligible to do so as she was born in Barbados and is not currently a US citizen), it drew significant backlash online.

After comments piled up, Rihanna sent out a variety of responses to her critics, replying to them with lines including: “Shut up Karen” and “lol! When yall stop burning ballot boxes come check me”.

“Where were you in Jan 6 sis?” she asked another. “Stick to your discounted crotch. We out here fighting for its rights!”.

Trump’s stance on reproductive right and his previous decision to overturn the landmark reproductive rights bill Roe v. Wade have been a major point of debate in this election, with the likes of Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish having previously endorsed Harris specifically for her commitment to restoring abortion access nationwide, and the latter approving her song ‘When the Party’s Over’ for a Democrat’s Ad on reproductive care.

Elsewhere on her Instagram, Rihanna also declared she loved her Bajan passport, and said she “came here to work and pay taxes! You’re welcome.” She also told one commenter: “You’re fucked! And so is the America you dream of. Hope you don’t have to find out the hard way.”

She joins scores of entertainment world figures in reacting to the election results. Earlier today (November 6),  Donald Trump made a speech in Florida to declare victory and, despite votes in key states still being counted, said it was a “magnificent victory for the American people” while also claiming he had also won the popular vote.

Having secured the 270 Electoral College votes by winning Wisconsin since, he has won a second term in the White House. Per a report from USA Today, Harris cancelled a planned speech at an election night party but has not yet conceded defeat.
