Rod Stewart has opened up on playing Glastonbury 2025, admitting that “it’s going to cost me a fortune to do it”.

The rock legend was announced to play the festival’s Legend Slot just days ago (November 26), where he will perform on Sunday June 29. He returns to Glasto after previously headlining in 2002 alongside Coldplay and Stereophonics.

Now, Stewart has opened up about the upcoming slot in an appearance on TALKSport yesterday (November 27). Speaking about the festival performance, Stewart said he “immediately” knew he would accept the opportunity, adding: “It’s a great honour”

However, Stewart admitted that “it’s going to cost me a fortune to do it – $300,0000 (£236,832).” Explaining the huge financial cost, he went on to say: “I’ve got to bring all my band back from America, of course Glastonbury don’t pay for that.

“But I don’t care if it cost me $1million (£789,440), I would have done it,” he concluded. “This is a great honour. It really is the greatest honour.”

Glasto is known for not often paying artists as much as other major festivals might due to donating a large portion of money to charities. However, the exposure it provides and knock-on effects of that are usually much larger.

Stewart is the first act to be confirmed to play Glastonbury, with the singer recently saying of his slot: “I’m absolutely thrilled to announce that I’ll be playing Glastonbury 2025!

“After all these years, I’m proud and ready and more than able to take the stage again to pleasure and titillate my friends at Glastonbury in June. I’ll see you there!”

The first batch of general admission tickets for Glastonbury 2025 sold out in just 35 minutes on November 15, following a sale of coach/ticket packages three days prior. This year, organisers introduced a new online queuing system to purchase tickets – which divided customers.

A resale of any returned tickets will take place in the spring.

Earlier this month, Stewart revealed that he would be done with “large-scale world tours” when his current run of dates was complete. However, he told fans that he had “no desire to retire” fully.

“I love what I do, and I do what I love,” he continued. “I’m fit, have a full head of hair, and can run 100 meters in 18 seconds at the jolly old age of 79.

“I’d like to move onto a Great American Songbook, Swing Fever tour the year after next – smaller venues and more intimacy. But then again, I may not…”

However, Stewart will host Las Vegas residencies in 2025 at The Colosseum in Caesars Palace. Additionally, he is set to tour in Europe and North America, following two shows in Spain and Denmark next month.
