Rostam covers Bob Dylan in stripped-back secret session at End of the Road

Rostam, a founding member of both Vampire Weekend and Discovery, started his secret session with “The Road to Death”, a track from his latest solo album, American Stories, released in May of this year. He was joined by bandmates Amir Yaghmai of The Voidz and Ben Carbone on pedal steel, part of the expanded group that will perform a full set later today on the Folly stage. Of track two, “In A River”, a light, hopeful love song about skinny dipping that was released as a standalone single between his first and second albums, Rostam said, “I don’t know if I’ve ever played that song in more appropriate setting… under a canopy of trees.” The four-song set was rounded out by another new-album track, “Come Apart”, for which he initiated stomp-clap time-keeping from the audience, and “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” from Dylan’s 1963 album, The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, complete with blasts of harmonica sailing over the Sunday afternoon loungers. This was Best Fit's penultimate secret session of the End of the Road weekend. Rostam plays at 8:45 pm on the Folly before travelling back to London for a live BBC session tomorrow.
