"Darkest Hours" draws on Joe Hisaishi’s compositions for Studio Ghibli films, music Saïna grew up playing, while the EP as a whole is loosely conceptual, imagining the titular hotel as a place of anonymity and transformation where guests can step beyond their everyday selves. Together with zuriel, Saïna wrote and co-produced Hotel 555, which will arrive next month alongside a short film shot in Tokyo. Speaking about the EP, Saïna said: “Hotel 555 has been my biggest leap of faith yet. I want to take you into my internal world of thoughts and shadows, brokenness and healing; and ask the question yourself: is escapism your friend or your enemy?” Saïna has released a string of collab singles, short EPs such as the three-track LUNDUN LULLABIES, and music for short films over the past few years. She's yet to put out a full-length album. She is a BRIT School alum who melds alt R&B, nu-soul, and electronic textures with Japanese folk lyrics. She's also one half of London DJ duo ZEE-2, and will play The Jazz Cafe on 8 October.
