The stop-motion animation studio LAIKA adapted Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy's youth novel Wildwood, set in a fantastical version of Portland, into a feature film. Last week, we heard "The Better Part Of Bravery," a new Decemberists song that plays over the end credits in the movie. That song will be on the official Wildwood soundtrack along with the original score by Dario Marianelli, all of which is dropping next Friday along with the movie. But there's also a whole second Wildwood album out today.
The new comp The Wildwood Sessions features previously unreleased tracks from a variety of artists, including Portland-based acts like Aminé, Portugal. The Man, New Constellations, and quickly, quickly. There are also new tunes from Saya Gray, Still Woozy, and others, as well as another new Decemberists song, "I Want To Be Lost." The quickly, quickly track "Anyway" stands out as an immediate highlight; we do love us some Graham Jonson here at the Gum.
Stream The Wildwood Sessions below.
The Wildwood Sessions is out now via LAIKA.
