Seven Countdown NYE Artists Share Tracks They’d Send to Aliens

19 hours ago 8

OddKidOut, SIREN, REAPER, Clawz, LAVERN, RaeCola, and MUSUBI dropped off a track they’d put on a Golden Record that’s sent out to space ahead of their sets at Countdown NYE this year.

The aliens are on the final leg of their return to Southern California for the upcoming edition of Countdown NYE and are surely bumping some top-tier tunes along the way. But where did they get their first taste of music from Earth? Probably one of the Golden Records attached to NASA’s Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 spacecraft that were sent to unexplored regions of the universe in 1977.

These records featured a variety of music from Earth along with other important indicators of life on this planet, but electronic music was still in its infancy. We wanted to know which tunes some contemporary artists in this genre would put on their own Golden Record, so we asked OddKidOut, SIREN, REAPER, Clawz, LAVERN, RaeCola, and MUSUBI, who are all set to play Countdown NYE this year.

Tickets for Countdown NYE are on sale now via Front Gate. Grab your passes for this cosmic affair, check out our essential info guide for all the important details, and read on for each artist’s curated track!

“Let them listen to ‘Mortal’ by Leotrix. That song is so nuts. I have always imagined it would be the song I would blast if I could ride around in a UFO in outer space. And for some reason, I feel like maybe they would understand how to communicate with us through the sounds on that track.”

“The Prodigy’s “Out of Space.” At the time of its release, this track brought together the underground rave scene and mainstream music. The energetic sound, breakbeats, and rave synths would work perfectly for educating aliens on rave music and would have them stomping down to earth to rave with us!”

“My track ‘HEATSEEKER’ for sure. I wrote that track and ‘RENEGADE’ EP with inspiration from alien and sci-fi-driven movies. The vocal’s “seek, destroy” call and response take me to another planet. I could see aliens moshing to it.”

“I would send the track “WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS” by NICE KEED to understand raving. The vocals would be friendly showing the connection humans make at raves, it shows the hype with heavy drops and that as a species we love to DANCE. Overall, this is a banger for aliens to vibe out to. They would love it.”

“I want to send my track “Human” into outer space because aliens never truly have been in contact with humans, and I would love to have them experience the feeling of a rave. I think this track captures all the euphoria and emotions you feel during a rave, so the track is perfect for that.”

“Livin Joy’s “Dreamer.” We’d have to send the aliens a hypnotic track they could just get lost in. With this song’s uplifting, resilient, and unapologetically joyous vocals paired with that house piano groove, this song has to be our pick. Even if the aliens can’t understand English, we’re sure they would understand this track and the energy of the community. Dance music really has the power to transcend any language.”

“Ouuuu. That’s a hard one to answer! Just one? Impossible. But if there are bad bitch aliens out there, I think they would really enjoy “Wasted” by MUSUBI. It’s a bad bitch house banger that really anybody and everybody can enjoy!! So be on the lookout for this single early next year. You might even hear it during my set.”
