Salt Around My Bed follows a period of change for Mynolia, in which she settled in Berlin before moving to the remote wilderness of the American South. New single "Holy Line" toes the line between fantasy and real life, as Mynolia explains: "This song emerged almost fully from a vivid, bittersweet dream. It's disorienting when there is no discernible distinction between the dream memory and a real-life memory. 'Holy Line' is about reuniting with something you'd never really had, or had all along but didn't know it." The songs draw inspiration from the days that Mynolia spent learning the terrain of the South, tapping into the calmer sounds of the wilderness and day-to-day practices like burning pictures, scattering salt, crushing eggshells for the garden. Mynolia brought a nearly finished version of Salt Around My Bed to ambient jazz instrumentalist Rich Ruth, who co-produced the album. Musicians and friends from around the world fleshed out the final vision, including Full Time Hobby label-mate Spencer Cullum on pedal steel, Corin Droullard on horns, Patrick McGonigle on violin and mandolin, and Charles Michael Parks Jr. of All Them Witches on bass.
