Smyths Toys have unveiled a new DJ controller, designed for children.
Called the iDance XD-301, the DJ decks come kitted out with two speakers and a MIC/AUX input, as well as being connectable through Bluetooth, USB and MP3 Player.
According to the product description, it looks to help kids “kickstart your music adventures”, and the set-up come with a host of features including pitch bend faders, a crossfader and space control wheels. It also incorporates LED sound pads and bass booster effects, allowing users to add effects and layer vocals over tracks.
Priced at £59.99 or €69.99, the controller comes powered by batteries and is rechargeable via USB. Each full charge provides between four and eight hours of usage.
“Gesture over the space control sensors to start the beats player, play jingles or drums, and add cool effects and acapellas to your tracks,” the product description continues. “With the mix-drop function, effortlessly add sound effects, and take your mixes to new heights of creativity.”

As highlighted by DJ Mag, the development of toys inspired by electronic music technology is a growing trend this year, and the iDance XD-301 is far from the first design aimed at getting kids interested in making music.
Back in March, a toy called the Blipbox MyTracks was developed by Playtime Engineering, and was an MPC-reminiscent controller designed to be a gateway into music production. Similarly, the outlet shares how there was also a book called The A-Z of Electronic, house and techno music released by Alpha-Beat at the start of the year, as was My First Book of Drum & Bass – which dropped in 2022 and helped children learn the alphabet.
