Spirit Adrift has surprise released a new album titled Infinite Illumination on all platforms, via 20 Buck Spin.
The album caps off a roughly decade-long career. It sees the group return to a more doom metal-driven sound than the main body of their work, which saw the band embrace a more triumphant mid-paced heavy metal sense of heft. The tonal shift places this final album in line with their debut Chained to Oblivion, creating a full-circle moment aesthetically.
As it stands, Spirit Adrift’s final live appearance was this past March 20th, opening for Crowbar and Eyehategod.
While no word yet has officially been given for the band’s sudden exit from music, it comes only months after band leader Nathan Garrett posted a GoFundMe for his wife’s stomach cancer treatments.
Garrett has been quite vocal about the role his wife played in his sobriety as well as being the firmament for the band. The GoFundMe is still live for those who wish to assist direct in the couple’s on-going medical costs.
