Two years ago, Straw Man Army, a DIY post-punk duo from New York, released their album SOS, and it impressed the hell out of me. Now, Straw Man Army have announced plans to drop a new LP called Earthworks next month. It’ll be the culmination of a trilogy that began with the group’s 2020 debut Age Of Exile, and its first two singles seriously rule.
“Look Alive” and “Extinction Burst,” the two new Straw Man Army tracks, manage to be nervous and meditative at the same time. “Look Alive” has a krautrock-ish beat, intricately intertwined guitars, and shouty lyrics about how “America will never last.” “Extinction Burst” is faster and choppier, and it’s got a lot of Fugazi in its DNA. Below, check out both songs and the Earthworks tracklist.
