The Welsh legends were last at Larmer Tree Gardens during their Hey Venus! tour, playing the Garden stage - the biggest stage back then - for the festival's second edition alongside acts such as Yo La Tengo, Lambchop, and Sea Power. The Furries’ most recent studio album was released only a few years later, 2009’s Dark Days/Light Years, meaning their set tonight was a de facto greatest hits, kicking off with “(Drawing) Rings Around the World” from 2001’s major label debut Rings Around the World and closing with protest epic “The Man Don't Give a Fuck”. The latter song featured the requisite costume changes, switching from high-vis space warriors to a lineup of sasquatches. The show, on the Woods stage before headliner CMAT, is the last in a run of festivals dates for Gruff Rhys and co, who were at Moseley Folk Festival yesterday, and earlier this year completed their first tour in a decade, coinciding with the release of Precreation Percolation, a compilation of early material from before their Creation Records era.
