Season two of The Pitt has reached its dramatic conclusion, but did the finale represent the end for Dr. Robbie? Find out below.
Season one of the acclaimed HBO Max show premiered in January last year and followed Noah Wyle’s Dr. Michael ‘Robby’ Robinavitch and his emergency room team at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center as they navigated a hectic 15-hour shift in real time, tackling overdoses, heart attacks and personal struggles amid a strained healthcare system.
The second season launched in January, with the finale arriving this week (April 16). Since the launch of HBO Max in the UK, the show has finally been available to watch legally in the country, with episodes currently being released onto the service on a weekly basis.

The show was created by John Wells and R. Scott Gemmill of ER fame, and it has been widely praised by critics for its relentless pacing and authenticity. Season two to date sites on a 98 per cent rating on reviews aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.
It was also named as one of NME’s best shows of 2025, noting: “Grisly emergencies, unruly patients, fresh interns, grief, PTSD and an uncomfortably realistic portrayal of all-too-familiar tragedies all came together to form one of the most intense and bingeable series in recent memory.”
By the end of The Pitt season two, Dr. Robby has endured one of the most punishing shifts of his career, treating a string of critical patients while showing signs of burnout, detachment and emotional fatigue.
His colleagues, as well as viewers, become increasingly concerned for his wellbeing, with the prospect of him being unable to complete the shift, suffering a severe breakdown or an even more dramatic breaking point appearing to all be possibilities.
In keeping with the sophistication of the show’s writing, the final episode avoids a definitive conclusion, with Robby completing the shift without collapse or being pulled from duty.
Instead, it finishes with Robby finding himself in care of an abandoned newborn baby, referred to as Baby Jane Doe. He remains at the bedside, helping to stabilise her, and establishes a tender emotional connection to the baby, reconnecting him with the real world. His emotional withdrawal appears to have been replaced with empathy, as he reassures the baby, and himself, that everything will be okay.
Season three has already been confirmed by HBO, and it appears that Robby will continue to be at the centre of the story moving forward.
