Ben Gibbard will put The Postal Service back on the shelf following a lengthy two-year tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of the band’s sole album, Give Up.
According to a press release, The Postal Service’s upcoming appearance at the HFStival in Washington, DC, on Saturday, September 23rd, will mark “the beginning of an indefinite hiatus for the band.”
Throughout the tour, Gibbard has been pulling double duty, performing with both The Postal Service and his other band, Death Cab for Cutie. The shows have featured double bills celebrating the 20th anniversaries of Give Up and Death Cab’s Transatlanticism.
“Getting the opportunity to perform these two albums live has been one of the greatest thrills and honors of my entire life,” Gibbard said in a statement. “On behalf of Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service, thank you so much for coming out and singing along. We will see you all again somewhere down the road.”
Following their initial run from 2001-2005, The Postal Service briefly reunited in 2013 to mark the 10th anniversary of Give Up. So we’ll probably see them again in another 10 years or so.
