Fans were drenched in delight at the debut of S2O Festival in NYC, which combined high-energy performances with a vibrant celebration of Asian heritage.

Last weekend, Brooklyn Mirage transformed into a sprawling water play park for the inaugural US edition of the S2O Festival, organized by Pulse Events. The prominent holiday originated in Thailand to mark Songkran (Thai New Year) and has built a sterling reputation as a water-themed festival throughout Asia. Having captivated the hearts of many music lovers in Bangkok, Tokyo, and more, the festival’s expansion into the US for the first time has sparked immense excitement from the moment it was announced earlier this year.

Doors opened on time at 4pm on show day, revealing a lively scene that captured the festival’s playful spirit. Adorned with colorful air balloons, the venue also had numerous merchandise booths offering essentials like waterproof phone case bags, eye goggles, towels, and water-themed gear to ensure fans were prepared for a wet and wild experience. Many attendees also came dressed in swimwear, eager to dive into the soaking atmosphere.

Over two nights, the diverse lineup of artists brought their unique flavor to the stage. From the intense drop of dubstep and techno to house and addictive dance-pop, there was something for everyone’s musical taste.

On the Brooklyn Mirage main stage, artists like Alan Walker, Timmy Trumpet, ARMNHMR, Said the Sky, William Black, and more amplified the energy of every beat drop through their music as the water jets moved in sync with the rhythm. The S2O World stage set up in the King’s Hall hosted many international artists like KENNY MUSIK, DJ SENNA, SoundSpider, DIMSVM, PSYXTOI, minijoy, DJ Ram, DREAMDRIVER, and more, each bringing their signature blend of cultural sounds and global perspective to the dynamic musical experience.

Water symbolizes renewal in Songkran, and the atmosphere brought a genuine sense of cultural significance and spontaneous fun.

The splash zones at the main stage were the highlight of the festival. Massive water cannons were set up with a strategic spray system calibrated to drench the crowd thoroughly yet maintain a safe and enjoyable experience. No one cared about getting drenched; it was all part of the exhilarating sensory experience, where every splash seemed like a part of the performance within an aquatic theme park. However, some first-timers unfamiliar with the intensity of the water blasts were playfully dodging the powerful sprays, adding a dynamic element to the scene.

The thoughtful division of spaces ensured that everyone could enjoy the S2O festival in their own way.

The Pulse Events team ensured that every attendee was well cared for. For those looking to stay dry and take a breather from the water-soaked festivities, the Great Hall offered a perfect retreat as a laid-back lounge. The thoughtful addition of a creative backdrop resembling a massive aquarium water tank made attendees feel connected to the water-themed atmosphere as they unwound in a calm environment to recharge.

The large, immersive display created the illusion of being surrounded by aquatic life, almost like a subtle reminder that you’re still part of the splashing fun. This was one of the festival’s most appreciated features, adding a layer of comfort to the festival experience.

With the success of the first edition in the US, the S2O Festival has set a high standard for even more thrilling editions in the future.

It was heartening to witness how the S2O Festival creatively merges playfulness with cultural significance to bring a rich heritage across the world. After an incredible experience this year, it seems that the festival is on an upward trajectory. This suggests that the best is yet to come, and here’s hoping that the festival’s continued growth and global presence will bring more joy and energy to an expanded audience.
