The War On Drugs – “Who’s That”

It's a beautiful day here in Stereogum world: The War On Drugs released a new single. Around these parts, that's cause for celebration, especially when they pile on the sonic splendor like this."Who's That," out today, is the first new song from the Drugs since 2022. The gorgeous tune finds Adam Granduciel once again backed by many layers of electro-organic audio, including piano by Spoon's Alex Fischel. "Would it be so wrong/ To be on the take?" he begins. "I've been blowing all the ducks away/ Just another weekday." The music is midtempo and keyboard-forward — kind of an epic new wave vibe, but not a radical departure from the dreamy dad-rock template this band has spent well over a decade perfecting.Speaking of dad-rock, check out Granduciel's "Who's That" origin story:"Who’s That" was written in 10 minutes somewhere between first coffee and school drop off. It’s a song about trying to love yourself despite things we can’t always control, like the anxiety, depression and self doubt that may stand in the way of living the life we truly desire. For the video, Max Flick captured Granduciel on a late-night walk around Burbank. Watch below.TOUR DATES:09/18 - Wilmington, DE @ The Queen...
