Now that Ed O'Brien has a new solo album to promote, he's a fount of Radiohead news. When O'Brien announced his upcoming LP Blue Morpho last week, he gave a Rolling Stone interview and divulged Radiohead's plans for touring in the years ahead: "Every year, we’re going to do a different continent, and we’re going to do 20 shows each year. No more, no less." And in a podcast interview with Consequence Of Sound's Kyle Meredith, O'Brien also recently broke the news that Thom Yorke will probably release a new solo album this year.
Yorke's last proper solo album was 2019's Anima. Last year, Radiohead played their first shows in years, and Yorke got together with UK producer Mark Pritchard for the collaborative album Tall Tales. Yorke also scored the 2024 film Confidenza and put out three albums with the Smile.
As Consequence Of Sound points out, Ed O'Brien broke the Thom Yorke news while talking about how Radiohead exist as "the mothership" as all the band members work on other projects:
What’s so lovely is it feels they both can coexist. The Radiohead thing can go out and tour — and that’s the mothership, I guess, for all of us. But we’ve got these little satellites. You know, there’s the Smile, and Thom’s got a solo album that’s going to come out later in the year, I think. And Jonny’s got his stuff, and you know, Philip [Selway]’s got his stuff, and Colin [Greenwood]’s playing with Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds.
