"Nat Cora & The Nations" follows previous singles "Marina" and "Gallowine", and is, as the band note, the one song that underwent the most change on the album.
“'Nat Cora and the Nations' has probably shapeshifted more times than any other track on the album, including a last minute chorus and outro rewrite on the day we were due to record it," they explain. "While there’s very little material in common with the song’s first iteration, it’s always wanted the same things, but has been weighed down at various points by overly involved drum grooves or too-heavy synthesisers. With every version, we wanted it to move forward at pace and have a lightness and bounce to it, while also having a nighttime mystique of locked doors, subterranean labyrinths, and keys in boxes by the sea - it was leaning in to our love of XTC, the masters of forward motion, that I think helped us get there.”
