UK’s “dismal” Eurovision song choices to be reviewed by MPs while Ireland will boycott again in 2027

The UK’s song and artist choices for Eurovision are set to be reviewed by MPs, with Ireland announcing that they’ll be boycotting the event for a second year running in 2027. This year’s edition of the competition saw Look Mum No Computer come last, finishing at the bottom of the table in 25th place. The artist (real name Sam Battle) picked up just one point from the jury scores, and received the dreaded zero votes from the public. He was the third UK act in a row to be awarded nul points in the public vote, after Remember Monday fared the same in 2025, as did Olly Alexander in 2024. Mae Muller finished second from the bottom in 2023, while James Newman came last two years prior. The BBC selects the act that represents the UK, sometimes alongside a record label or music management company. Dame Caroline Dinenage, chair of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport committee (DCMS), has now said that the UK “want to get to the bottom of who chooses our entrant, on what basis and whether our dismal record of achievement in recent years is the result of bad song choice, weak performance… or something else” (via BBC News).
