It was also their first headline show since the unexpected passing of their manager Trevor Dietz, and it followed their performance at the final ever BBC live session at Maida Vale earlier this week. Fontaines have previously confirmed that they have been working on new material, and last night debuted two new songs: ‘Marianne’ and ‘Six Shot Morning’. ‘Marianne’ came early in the set, and sees the band lean into a more industrial sound. “This could be your fatal match,” frontman Grian Chatten sings, with the chorus unfolding: “Marianne, this year you should come and stay here / You can follow my lead / I can help you disappear.” Meanwhile, ‘Six Shot Morning’, played during the encore, is built around a spacey synth, with Chatten singing: “Six shot morning it’s a beautiful world,” over a pulsing bassline.
