‘Weird Al’ Yankovic and Will Forte played a faithful rendition of Chappell Roan’s ‘Hot To Go!’ at a benefit concert in Kansas City on Saturday (November 9).

The performance came during the annual Thundergong! Show at the city’s Uptown Theater, which is organised by Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis, and supports Steps of Faith, a charity that helps individuals with amputations to get prosthetic limbs.

Actor and comedian Forte, known for Saturday Night Live and The Lego Movie, introduced the song by suggesting to Yankovic that instead of going for the latter’s usual parody style, they should instead play the song straight.

“You are known for taking current songs and changing the lyrics around, but what if we sang a song right now that’s current where we didn’t change the lyrics?” Forte said.

“Not change the lyrics? What a novel concept, that’s a great idea. Let’s do it,” Yankovic responded.

Also on the Thundergong! bill were Sudeikis himself, who covered Wings’ ‘Live And Let Die’ and Billie Eilish’s ‘Happier Than Ever’, and a version of Public Enemy’s ‘Bring The Noise’ alongside Flavor Flav, which you can see here:

Roan is riding high at the moment, picking up Grammy nominations in all four major categories this week: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist.

She also separated from her management team State Of The Art, after having been represented by them since 2018.

Roan was the musical guest on a recent episode (November 2) of Saturday Night Livewhere she debuted a new country song ‘The Giver’, which some fans have already dubbed a “lesbian anthem”.

That came after Roan teased her highly anticipated sophomore album. Last month, she shared a post on Instagram, where she hinted at the upcoming project with a reference to Love Island.

In the carousel post, she holds up her debut album, and another slide on the post sees her with a microphone in her hand, seemingly in a recording studio. She wrote on the caption: “Album kinda popped off imo but it is time to welcome a hot new bombshell into the villa.”
