Between its fresh cast of newcomers and throwback adventure spirit, Outer Banks has grown into a formidable hit for Netflix.
Created by Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke, the mystery drama follows the lives of two groups of teenagers as they search for a lost treasure in North Carolina.

The show’s cast is led by Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, and Madison Bailey, alongside Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, Austin North, and Drew Starkey.
Outer Banks’ first season debuted on Netflix in June 2021, with the concluding half of season four being released in November 2024.
Is Outer Banks season 5 happening?
Netflix has renewed Outer Banks for a fifth and final season, with the creators stating the show was always planned with five seasons in mind.
“We’ve always known from the beginning what the last scene would be,” teased co-creator Josh Pate to Tudum.

In a joint letter from Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke, the trio wrote: “Now, with a little sadness, but also excitement, we’re putting season four behind us and are turning to season five, in which we hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago.
“Season five will be our last season and we think it will be our best yet. We hope you’ll join us for one more paddle out to the surf break.”
What is the release date for season 5?
Netflix has not announced a release date for the fifth season. The showrunners, however, confirmed they were in the process of writing the scripts in November 2024, so it’ll be a little while off yet.
If the production schedule follows the gap between prior seasons, we could see Outer Banks season 5 in May 2026 at the earliest. There was a 20-month gap between seasons three and four, and 19 months between seasons two and three.
