Bringing together artists, policymakers, industry leaders, technologists and cultural thinkers, the event – which relocates to Media City in Salford this year – aims to help shape a more collaborative, equitable and imaginative future for the creative industries and beyond. Launched in 2023 as a collaborative "parliament" for the global music and creative industries with a focus away from London, co-founder Oli Wilson sought to build upon the civic and musical legacy of his father, Tony Wilson—the broadcaster and co-founder of Factory Records and The Haçienda - whose In the City event helped break and showcase iconic acts early in their careers, including Oasis, Coldplay, Radiohead, Muse, and the Arctic Monkeys. This year's Beyond The Music will also pay tribute to Wilson Sr with a 24th anniversary screening of 24 Hour People, now considered one of the best music biopics ever made, alongside a keynote conversation with Director Michael Winterbottom and actor Steve Coogan.
