11 Injured Post-Beyoncé Concert After Fan Saw Scary Bug, Caused Escalator Stampede

Seven people were taken to hospital and 11 injured in the early hours of July 16th when a Beyoncé fan at an Atlanta train station saw what was a reportedly a pretty scary bug, causing them to lose their composure and force the crowded escalator into a stampede.

As reported by Billboard and captured on social media, sudden weight shifts caused the escalator to malfunction. Stephany Fisher of Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority noted “a person began screaming and running, causing a stampede on the escalator that caused it to temporarily speed up and then stop suddenly.”

Several injuries occurred in the resulting chaos. Fisher explained that “there was a scream and witnesses said the person who screamed was reacting to an insect. I believe there’s also video on TikTok of a woman claiming it was a 10-year-old relative who screamed when she saw a bug.” The bug has not been identified.

Thankfully, most of the injuries appeared to be minor, although one victim did suffer a broken ankle. According to a MARTA statement, “Seven people were transported to the hospital with cuts and scrapes, and one person declined transport. Two people requested medical assistance after reaching their destinations.”

Consequence could not verify the story about the creepy insect assaulting a minor. It would be poetic if it turned out to be a bee, but if Consequence had to guess, we bet it was one of those awful centipedes with all the teeth that we’re pretty sure we saw one time by the dumpster behind our house. Don’t stress it, little girl. We would’ve screamed, too.

As for Beyoncé, she’s got several dates remaining on the “Cowboy Carter” tour, and the shows have been pretty good. Tickets are available here.
