2024 In Memoriam: Remembering Those We Lost

2 days ago 6

As we’re all transitioning into another year, it’s important to remember the people who won’t make the journey with us. Whether they were musicians, actors, athletes, media personalities or activists, these individuals and their contributions left a massive impact on the world.

This past November, we lost Quincy Jones, a legendary bandleader, composer and record producer who produced Michael Jackson’s Off the Wall as well as countless other musical wonders during his lifetime. A month before that, we lost Ka, a revered rapper and firefighter whose lyrical abilities gained him support from fellow rap heavyweights like GZA and Roc Marciano.

Earlier this month, the world said goodbye to Nikki Giovanni, an iconic poet and activist who became integral to the Black Arts Movement of the ‘60s and ‘70s.

Comprehensively documenting everything they’ve done is just as difficult as bidding farewell. It’s hard to say goodbye, but today, we’ll try our best. Below are the names of those our culture lost in 2024.
