It’s time for the 2025 Emmy Award nominations, with the shows competing for TV’s biggest prizes representing a wide range of favorites, from a galaxy far far away to the restaurant scene in modern-day Chicago. Unlike 2024, there won’t be any of the confusion generated by having two Emmys ceremonies in the same year, though one Emmys tradition endures: There are a lot of familiar faces in the mix.
2024 Comedy Series winner Hacks is back in contention for its fourth season, where it’ll also likely face past nominees The Bear, Abbott Elementary, Only Murders in the Building, and the final season of What We Do in the Shadows. New shows in the mix as contenders include Netflix’s Nobody Wants This as well as Apple TV+’s The Studio and Shrinking.
Elsewhere, past Emmys juggernaut last year’s winner for Drama Series, Shōgun, isn’t in play (only shows released from June 2024 to May 2025 are eligible). Actually, the only 2024 Drama Series nominee that’s even eligible in 2025 is Apple TV+’s Slow Horses (all the other shows have either ended or are still in production on their next seasons). So the playing field is theoretically wide open, though watch out for prior nominees including Andor, Severance, The White Lotus, and The Last of Us. And newcomer The Pitt could have the kind of momentum that would make Warner Bros. Discovery very happy.
The limited series contenders include Netflix’s Adolescence, HBO’s The Penguin, FX’s Dying for Sex, with series stars Stephen Graham, Owen Cooper, Colin Farrell, Cristin Milioti, and Michelle Williams likely set to be honored with acting nominations as well. But there’s still plenty of room for surprises, as we’ll find out soon.
The Television Academy will reveal the nominations for the 77th annual Emmy Awards on July 15th at 11:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. PT. Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows) and Brenda Song (Running Point) will have the honor of presenting the announcement, which you can watch below via YouTube. In addition, before the full formal announcement, the nominees for the Outstanding Reality Competition Program and Outstanding Talk Series categories will be revealed on CBS Mornings at approximately 7:47 a.m. ET/4:47 a.m. PT.
Nate Bargatze (Consequence’s Comedian of the Year in 2023) will host the 2025 Emmy Awards on September 14th, airing on CBS. Check out the full list of nominees below.
