50 Cent has Street Fighter fans’ attention. The rapper/actor/mogul will be starring in the upcoming movie reboot of the popular video game fighting franchise. Nexus Point News previously reported that 50 was in talks to play boxer Balrog. Shortly after their report, 50 seemed to respond via X (formerly Twitter) and now the speculation has been confirmed.

According to

The Hollywood Reporter

, 50 (born Curtis Jackson) has officially joined the cast of Legendary Entertainment’s adaptation of the classic Capcom video game. 50 initially posted a link to the Nexus Point News story — and he captioned the post: “No Days off, Let's work all roads lead to Shreveport 💣Boom💨" and added a link to his site.

The character of Balrog originally debuted in Street Fighter II back in 1991. A ruthless boxer from the slums of Las Vegas — whose design was originally inspired by Mike Tyson — Balrog has been one of the Street Fighter brand’s most consistently visible antagonists. In the movie franchise, he was portrayed by Grand L. Bush in 1994s Street Fighter; and the late Michael Clarke Duncan played Balrog in Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li in 2009. Earlier this year, Balrog was also included on OkayPlayerGo’s list of the “30 Most Iconic Black Characters In Video Game History.”

In related news, Deadline recently reported that Callina Liang, star of Steven Soderbergh’s supernatural thriller Presence, has been cast in the female lead role of Chun-Li in Street Fighter. The movie's confirmed cast now includes Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns, and Orville Peck. Bad Trip‘s Kitao Sakurai is the film’s director.

This year has seen major success for a video game-based movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, A Minecraft Movie earned a whopping $163 million domestically in its opening weekend–the best opening ever for a movie that’s a video game adaptation. It would go on to gross $954 million in worldwide box office.

Street Fighter is set to be released on March 20, 2026.
