Freddie Mercury
I love Queen, I love Freddie Mercury’s voice. I love how expressive he is. They’re all great singers in that band, actually, but I think that Freddie holds a particularly special place in my heart. My mother was very, very pregnant with me when that 1985 Live Aid concert happened, and she watched it, and I think I was listening as well at that point. Maybe that inspired me from within the womb.
Chris Cornell
Chris Cornell for sure. I love Soundgarden. I love Chris’ voice. I love his vibrato, his swagger, his rasp, his high range, the way he pronounces his words. If you listen Audioslave’s “Like a Stone,” you can feel the melancholy, you can feel how he sounds defeated. He does more than just produce words on notes. He’s really evoking emotion with his voice and I love that.
Lzzy Hale
Lzzy Hale, because holy shit. She is so good. She’s such a good vocalist. She’s such a great musician. Such a great performer. I am blown away every time I see her in concert. I always want to pick her brain backstage afterwards and be like, ‘How did you do that thing?,’ ’cause I think she’s just insanely talented. I’m so happy to see Halestorm doing so well, because they absolutely deserve it.
