Aphex Twin To Reissue Polygon Window Album Surfing on Sine Waves

Richard D. James, the artist best known as Aphex Twin, has announced an expanded reissue of 1993’s Surfing on Sine Waves, the first and only album recorded under his Polygon Window alias. The newly-expanded edition will arrive on September 26th.

Surfing on Sine Waves was originally released in January 1993 via Warp Records as the second installment in their Artificial Intelligence compilation series; James had contributed to the first edition in 1992 with a song called “Polygon Window” under the alias Dice Man. Taking after his own contribution, James crafted Surfing on Sine Waves under the alias Polygon Window, and followed the LP up with a short EP, Quoth. These two releases were James’ only offerings under the alias; now, they’re being combined into one expanded package.

Surfing on Sine Waves (Expanded Edition) is available in both clear and black 3xLP vinyl in polylined inner sleeves and in
gatefold outer sleeve. It’s also available in CD and cassette format. To complete the package, Warp is also offering a special edition T-shirt and hat. Pre-order the set here.

James had previously released a reissue of Surfing on Sine Waves in 2001, adding the unreleased songs “Portreath Harbour” and “Redruth School”; those two songs will also appear on the expanded edition.

James’ most recent album as Aphex Twin was the 2024 compilation project Music from the Merch Desk (2016-2023), a sprawling release comprised of tracks that previously were only available for purchase on vinyl during his live shows and DJ sets. He also curated a massive, 13-hour playlist for Supreme this year.
