Ariana Grande has been announced as part of the cast for the upcoming 13th season of American Horror Story.
Ryan Murphy’s show has been running for 12 seasons dating back to 2011, the most recent of which wrapped in April last year on FX. Each season is its own self-contained story, with characters occasionally crossing over, and some of the most acclaimed performances have come from Emma Roberts, Jessica Lange, James Cromwell and Kathy Bates.
Now, it has been confirmed Grande will be part of season 13, while among the returning faces will be Roberts, Lange and Bates, as well as Angela Bassett, Sarah Paulson, Billie Lourd, Evan Peters, Leslie Grossman and Gabourey Sidibe.
Grande’s involvement was confirmed in a post on the Instagram page for Ryan Murphy Productions earlier today (October 31), with the actors’ names appearing in the show’s distinctive font against a plain black background, backed by Vera Lynn’s ‘I’ll Be Seeing You’.
Lange, Bassett, Bates and Sidibe have not appeared since season eight in 2018, while Paulson and Peters last showed up in season 10 in 2021. It has not been confirmed whether season 13 will return to the story of a previous season, but the inclusion of so many series regulars has led many fans to believe that to be the case.
Last year, Rotten Tomatoes ranked American Horror Story as the number one horror-themed television show of all time, just ahead of Stranger Things and The Walking Dead.
It will represent the latest major acting project for Grande, who is also set to star in the sequel Wicked: For Good on November 21, the follow-up to 2024’s Wicked, and she also appeared in the 2021 eco-satire Don’t Look Up.
Earlier this year, she reassured fans that she will not be “abandoning” her music career in favour of acting. “Very silly of you all to assume that just because I have my hands full with many things that I plan to abandon singing and music…!!” she wrote.
“It is and always has been my lifeline. There will need to be room made for all of it. It may not look exactly like it did before but I much prefer how it looks in my head. I am having fun. I feel grateful and excited and inspired :)”
