Beyond the Boys’ Club: Dorothy on Faith, “MUD,” and Getting Her Scream On

5 hours ago 3

Beyond the Boys’ Club is a monthly column focusing on women in rock and metal music, as they offer their perspectives on the music industry and discuss their personal experiences. Journalist, radio host and musician Anne Erickson of Audio Ink Radio and the music outfit Upon Wings, writes the column. This month’s piece features an interview with vocalist Dorothy.

Powerhouse vocalist Dorothy and her eponymous band have hit the Top 10 of the Mainstream Rock chart with the country-metal anthem “MUD,” which will be featured on the forthcoming album The Way, set to arrive sometime in 2025.

As Dorothy describes, The Way is one of the heaviest albums she’s done, both musically and lyrically. She’s a very spiritual person, and you’ll hear that throughout the album.

“We’re not a Christian band, but I just happen to be a Christian, and sometimes, those seeds are planted in my lyrics,” she tells Heavy Consequence. “I try to keep it in a way that it speaks to as many people as possible.”

“It’s definitely been a journey,” she adds of her faith. “It’s not always been like that. I was out in the world, looking for an answer. I always had this deep internal longing for the truth. Like, why am I here? What’s this life for — like the Creed song. And, I’ve always had that searching. I actually became a born-again Christian in rehab. I checked in on Halloween 2020. It was like a scene from movie. It was a blood-red full moon in the sky, and I’m checking into rehab, and I’m a total mess. I got saved in rehab.”

Fans can catch Dorothy performing on May 16th at the 2025 Welcome to Rockville festival in Daytona Beach, Florida, with more tour dates surely to be announced in the near future.

Dorothy spoke with Heavy Consequence for the Beyond the Boys’ Club column about the single “MUD,” her duet with Scott Stapp, her experience as a woman in the music industry, and more. Read the full interview below and keep up with Dorothy at her official website.
