Billy Corgan hasn’t been asked yet, but says The Smashing Pumpkins would “absolutely” love to play The Sphere, and even has an idea to do a production built around Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.
“It’s a no-doubter for us. We just haven’t been asked yet,” Corgan responded when asked of his interest in playing the Las Vegas venue during a recent interview on KROQ. “See, if the Sphere came to us and said, ‘We’d love you to do all of Mellon Collie with that production.’ Now, that makes sense to me to do something like that, to build the show around the album…. Then you have a chance to recast the songs and the music in a different dynamic.”

For now, Corgan is content taking Mellon Collie back on the road for Smashing Pumpkins’ “The Rats in a Cage Tour,” which will feature songs from the landmark album alongside a second set of fan favorites across 27 North American cities.
Sphere, meanwhile, will soon welcome Metallica for a lengthy residency, and also reportedly has been in discussions with Tool about a potential run of shows.
