Billy Idol and Avril Lavigne performed their collaborative single “77” on Monday night (April 28th) on Jimmy Kimmel Live! The song appears on Idol’s new album, Dream Into It.

The TV performance comes just as Idol is set to kick off the first leg of his North American tour with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. The spring outing launches Wednesday night (April 30th) in Phoenix, and runs through May 23rd in Toronto. A summer run will kick off August 14th in Chicago, with tickets to both legs available here.

The Kimmel performance saw Idol and Lavigne both wearing black leather jackets as they traded verses on the pop-punk song. Idol’s longtime guitarist Steve Stevens got the spotlight with a solo around the 2:10 mark.

In Heavy Consequence‘s recent interview with Idol, the rock legend discussed the song “77,” telling us, “I was just sort of ruminating about how today in America it’s not so different from what it was like in the seventies in England, because in those days there was basically a war going on between the unions and whatever government was in charge.”

He added, “So, I was thinking about that and how it’s not so different from America today, where there’s a kind of an attack on diversity, and basically attack on immigrants, a lot of whom were allowed to come here originally to work.”

Idol was nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year, but unfortunately wasn’t among the inductees who were just announced this past Sunday.

Lavigne, meanwhile, will kick off the 2025 leg of her “Greatest Hits” North American tour on May 18th. Tickets for her shows are available here.
