Billy Idol Announces Vinyl Reissues of Don’t Stop EP, Whiplash Smile, and Charmed Life

Billy Idol has announced a trio of vinyl reissues, returning his debut EP Don’t Stop, 1986’s Whiplash Smile, and 1990’s Charmed Life to print on wax for the first time in years.

The reissues are set to arrive August 15th via Capitol/UMe on black vinyl, plus a colored variant of each album.

Don’t Stop was Billy Idol’s first solo release following the breakup of his band Generation X, whose song “Dancing with Myself” is featured on the EP in a shortened format under Idol’s name. Although original pressings are abundant, the EP hasn’t been issued on vinyl since the ’80s.

Whiplash Smile came later in 1986 after Idol had achieved rockstar status via hits like “White Wedding” and “Rebel Yell” from his first two albums. This album also faired well, vaulting to No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart on the strength of singles “Don’t Need a Gun” and “Sweet Sixteen.” It hasn’t been available on vinyl since 2013.

Lastly, 1990’s Charmed Life will be pressed as a double-LP for the first time. It also marks the first-ever vinyl reissue of Billy’s fourth studio album, which features the singles “Cradle of Love” and “Prodigal Blues,” plus a cover of The Doors’ “L.A. Woman.”

The release of the reissues aligns with the kickoff of Idol’s upcoming summer trek with Joan Jett, the second leg of their 2025 North American tour. The outing recommences August 16th in Philadelphia, with tickets available here.
