Billy Strings will be off the road for the near future after breaking his leg in a freak skateboarding accident. As the bluegrass star recounted in a post to social media on Monday, he was “screwing around” prior to the encore of his show in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Saturday when he “tried to do a trick I’ve done a million times (back 180) and landed awkwardly and broke my leg. I heard it snap over the screaming crowd!!”
Though he contemplated “carrying on with the tour and Dave Grohling it” (apparently the Foo Fighters frontman even offered to lend him his throne), Strings has ultimately decided to reschedule the remaining details of spring tour. “I don’t believe that I could give you guys the show you deserve coming right out of this surgery and these first few days are really important as far as keeping this thing elevated and letting it heal,” he explained. “Plus I’m all messed up on pain killers and stuff.”
As of now, Strings is due back on the road in July.
Well, can’t say y’all didn’t warn me about screwing around on my skateboard!! Saturday night I walked off stage right before the encore I was all zazzed up from a really fun show. I grabbed my board and tried to do a trick I’ve done a million times (back 180) and landed awkwardly… pic.twitter.com/tWDGWAbMST
