Björk Calls on Greenland to Declare Independence Amid Threats of US Takeover

Björk has urged Greenlanders to declare independence amid renewed threats from Donald Trump over a possible US takeover.

In an Instagram post on Monday, Björk pointed to Iceland’s own independence from Denmark in 1944 as a model for Greenland, writing that Icelanders are “extremely relieved” they broke away and didn’t lose their language. She went on to condemn Denmark’s treatment of Greenlanders, referencing the alleged forced IUD campaign affecting hundreds of women and girls between 1966 and 1970, and added that “still today the danish are treating greenlanders like they are second class humans.”

Now, with Trump once again contemplating a takeover of Greenland, the country faces the specter of going “from one cruel coloniser to another,” Björk contends. As such, she is calling on Greenlanders to “declare independence !!!!”
