Bob Dylan revived a classic during his show in Tennessee on Wednesday night, performing “The Times They Are a-Changin'” for the first time in 15 years.
The performance took place during Dylan and Willie Nelson’s “Outlaw Music Festival Tour” stop at the FirstBank Ampitheater in Franklin, Tennessee. The last time Dylan had performed the 1964 track was during an event at the White House in 2010 that celebrated the music from the civil rights movement.
The new rendition of “The Times They Are a-Changin'” was arranged differently than Dylan’s sparse, guitar-aided original, with the 83-year-old folk icon performing from behind the piano and accompanied by his band. Though Dylan’s performance was a bit rough around the edges, the song hasn’t lost its poignancy over 60 years later. Watch fan-captured videos of the performance below.
The “Outlaw Music Festival Tour” continues through the summer with Willie Nelson, plus special guests Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Trampled by Turtles, Wilco, Sheryl Crowe, Turnpike Troubadours, Waxahatchee, and many more joining throughout the run. Get tickets here.
Dylan has been dusting off a few rarities on this outing. He played “Mr. Tambourine Man” for the first time in 15 years at the tour’s kickoff, and covered “All Along the Watchtower” with fellow tourmate Billy Strings last month. In addition to the sprawling summer tour, Dylan has kept busy so far in 2025; he recently announced a book of drawings titled Point Blank (Quick Studies), out November 18th, and apparently narrated a trailer for MGK’s upcoming album, Lost Americana.
