Body Type Announce New Album Tally: Hear “Mulberry”

Sophie McComish and Annabel Blackman, the two leaders of the Sydney post-punk band Body Type, sound like they're having an absolute blast on the mic. On their new song "Mulberry," they drawl with playful exuberance, as if they've been waiting their whole lives to cut loose over a bright, brittle jangle. The end result reminds me of early Courtney Barnett. The accent is admittedly a big part of that, but it's not the only part. (They're touring Europe and the UK with Barnett later this year, so this isn't me lumping all Australian women together, OK? I know what I'm talking about here. I'm a professional.)

Body Type have been around for a while, and their sophmore album Expired Candy came out three years ago. Since then, Body Type have signed with King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard's (p)Doom label, and they recorded their upcoming LP Tally in LA, with Warpaint's Stella Mozgawa producing. That's a cool combination of co-signs. "Mulberry," the album's lead single, is a promising sign for what's ahead. Check it out below.

Tally is out 7/24 on (p)Doom. Pre-order it here.
